Most clients find it very tolerable — typically a 2–5 out of 10. We apply medical-grade topical numbing cream before every session. Scar tissue often has reduced sensitivity, so many clients feel even less in those areas.

Inkless treatment uses tattoo-grade needles with specialized healing serums (no pigment) to trigger your body’s natural collagen, elastin, and melanin production. It improves texture, tone, and color from within. Pigment camouflage deposits custom-blended skin-tone color into the skin to reduce visible contrast. We always start with inkless, and add pigment only when it would genuinely improve the outcome.

Most clients need 2–4 total sessions: 1–3 inkless sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart, plus 1–2 pigment sessions if needed. The exact number depends on the severity of your stretch marks or scars, your skin type, and how your body responds to treatment. We’ll give you a realistic estimate during your consultation.

Inkless results are long-lasting because the collagen and elastin improvement is structural — your body has genuinely rebuilt the skin. Pigment camouflage typically lasts 3–7 years depending on sun exposure, skin type, and aftercare. Touch-ups can extend results. Consistent SPF use is the single most important thing you can do to maintain longevity.

No. Although both involve needles, our inkless technique uses professional tattoo-grade equipment at controlled, targeted depths specifically on scar tissue. It’s more precise and more intensive than cosmetic microneedling, which uses multi-needle cartridges across larger skin areas. Our approach also deposits specialized repair serums directly into the deeper layers of the skin during treatment.

Yes. Both inkless and pigment camouflage are safe when performed by trained professionals in a sterile environment. We use single-use needles, clinical-grade equipment, and follow strict NYC health department protocols. Allergic reactions are extremely rare. A patch test is performed before any pigment work.

Yes. Our NYC studio is fully licensed and follows strict safety and sterility protocols. All procedures are performed by certified professionals using single-use needles and clinical-grade equipment.

Yes. We work with all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI). The inkless phase carries zero pigment mismatch risk since no color is deposited. For pigment work, we custom-blend to your exact natural undertone. We always match to your natural (untanned) skin tone.

Immediately after treatment, expect redness and mild swelling for 1–3 days. Over the next 1–2 weeks, the area may feel tight and dry, with some light flaking. Don’t pick or scratch. By weeks 2–8, the area will progressively look more natural. Final results from inkless build over 2–4 months as collagen remodels. Pigment will appear darker initially, then soften and settle over 4–6 weeks.

Keep the area clean with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Apply the aftercare ointment we provide for the first two weeks. Avoid swimming, saunas, hot tubs, gyms, and direct sun exposure for 7–10 days. No tight clothing over the treated area for 2–3 days. No anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, Advil) for 3 days before and after treatment, as they interfere with the healing response. After healing, always use SPF 30+ on treated areas when exposed to sun.

Yes. There’s no real downtime. Most clients resume normal activity the same day. You’ll have some redness in the treated area (similar to a mild sunburn), but it’s typically not visible under clothing. Just avoid strenuous exercise and sweating for about a week.

You should avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 4–6 weeks after treatment. Long-term, consistent SPF use is essential — UV exposure is the number one factor that affects the longevity and appearance of your results. If you do tan, your surrounding skin may darken while the treated area stays closer to its current tone.

No. If pigment work is involved, we need to match to your natural (untanned) skin tone. Please avoid tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before your appointment. This ensures the most accurate color match that will look right year-round.

No. SkinAlchemy focuses exclusively on stretch mark and scar camouflage. It’s all we do, and we believe that deep specialization leads to better results.

Absolutely. Many of our clients are men seeking scar camouflage or stretch mark treatment. Stretch marks and scars don’t discriminate — neither do we.

Pricing depends on the size, location, and severity of the area being treated. We provide a personalized quote during your free consultation after assessing your skin. There are no hidden fees, and we’ll always be transparent about total expected cost before you commit.

Yes. We offer both in-person consultations at our NYC studio and virtual consultations via video call. Both are free and last about 30 minutes. For virtual consults, we’ll ask you to send or show photos of the area so we can assess and advise properly.

Yes. Physical and digital gift cards are available — a thoughtful way to give someone the gift of confidence.

We treat stretch marks of all colors and widths — white, silver, red, and purple. Common areas include the stomach, thighs, hips, breasts, buttocks, and arms. Stretch marks from pregnancy, growth spurts, weight changes, and muscle gain are all treatable. They should be at least 6 months old and no longer actively forming. Newer marks that are still changing may need a bit more time before treatment.

Many clients achieve excellent results from inkless alone — in fact, a significant number of our clients don’t end up needing pigment at all. The inkless phase stimulates collagen, elastin, and melanin production, which can naturally restore both texture and color. We only recommend pigment when visible contrast remains after the inkless phase and it would genuinely improve the result.

You may notice subtle improvement after the first inkless session. However, the real changes build over 2–4 months as your body produces new collagen and the skin remodels. Full results from pigment are visible after 4–6 weeks once the color settles. Patience is important — the treated area will go through several stages (redness, darkening, then lightening) before reaching its final appearance.

Inkless treatment works well on stretch marks of any width, including wide, paper-thin marks that other methods struggle with. By stimulating collagen from within, we improve the tone and texture regardless of how wide the mark is. Wider marks may require additional sessions for best results.

Yes. Breasts are one of the most common treatment areas along with the stomach and thighs. The skin in this area responds well to both inkless and pigment techniques. We customize the approach based on the specific texture and tone of the stretch marks.

We cannot treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you’re planning to become pregnant soon, it may be worth waiting until after pregnancy and nursing, since new stretch marks can form during that time. We’re happy to discuss timing during your consultation.

Treated stretch marks won’t “come back,” but significant weight fluctuations or another pregnancy could create new stretch marks in the same or different areas. The collagen improvement from inkless is structural and lasting. Pigment will gradually fade over several years and may benefit from a touch-up.

Immediately after, the treated area will be red and slightly swollen — this is normal and expected. Over the next 1–2 weeks, redness fades and the area may appear darker temporarily (this is part of the healing response). Don’t panic during this phase. Over the following weeks to months, the color will normalize and the true improvement becomes visible. Trust the process.

Laser treatments damage the outer layer of skin to trigger healing, but they don’t restore color to the stretch marks. Many of our clients have tried laser with limited results before coming to us. Our approach works differently: inkless stimulates collagen and natural pigmentation from within, and pigment camouflage directly addresses the color contrast. The results are typically more visible and the cost is significantly lower than multiple laser sessions.

Avoid strenuous exercise, sweating, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, and the ocean for 7–10 days after each session. Light walking is fine after 24–48 hours. Sweat and bacteria can interfere with healing and increase infection risk during the initial recovery period.

We treat flat, healed scars with visible color contrast — including surgical scars, C-section scars, injury scars, and scars from cosmetic or orthopedic procedures. The scar must be at least 12 months old, fully stable, and no longer changing in color or texture. We’ll assess your specific scar during your free consultation.

We require scars to be at least 12 months old. The scar needs to be fully healed, flat, stable, and no longer actively changing. If your surgeon has cleared you, that’s helpful — but we’ll also do our own assessment during consultation to make sure the timing is right.

Yes — C-section scars are among our most common and rewarding treatments. We treat them once they’re at least 12 months old, fully healed, and flat. The inkless phase softens the texture, and pigment (if needed) blends the color to match surrounding skin.

Ideally, yes. A smooth, stable surface allows for the most even results. However, the inkless phase of treatment can help soften and flatten mild texture irregularities before we move to pigment. During consultation, we’ll assess the texture and recommend whether inkless pre-treatment is needed.

No. Active or growing keloid scars are not suitable for treatment, as needling can potentially stimulate further keloid growth. If you have a history of keloids but haven’t developed one from other procedures (piercings, tattoos), you may still be a candidate — we’ll discuss this during consultation.

Our goal is significant reduction in visibility, not absolute perfection. Most clients see dramatic improvement that makes their scar far less noticeable in daily life. Under very close inspection, you may still be able to see a faint trace — but the contrast that draws the eye will be greatly reduced. We always set honest expectations during your consultation.

It depends on the burn scar’s texture, age, and stability. Flat, healed burn scars with color contrast may be treatable. Raised or heavily textured burn scars are more challenging. We assess each case individually during consultation and will be honest about what’s achievable.

The inkless technique can help improve the texture and appearance of certain acne scars, particularly shallow or rolling acne scars. Deep ice-pick scars are more difficult. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your specific scarring and let you know what improvement is realistic.

Many of our clients come to us after trying laser treatments with limited results. Our approach is fundamentally different — inkless stimulates healing and collagen from within, and pigment directly addresses color. Previous laser treatment doesn’t disqualify you, but we need to assess the current state of the scar during consultation.

Not always. Some scars respond beautifully to inkless alone, especially when the main issue is texture rather than color. We start with inkless because it addresses the foundation — and we only add pigment when it would clearly improve the final result. We never push unnecessary procedures.
